Patna, July 26 (NationPress) In a major shift in Bihar's political landscape ahead of the Assembly elections, Tej Pratap Yadav, the former minister for environment, forest, and climate change, has declared his intent to run as an independent candidate from the Mahua constituency in Vaishali district.
Tej Pratap, who achieved victory in Mahua in 2015 and Hasanpur in 2020, expressed, “Mahua is my karmabhoomi. I share a deep emotional bond with it. I am committed to its development and will strive to elevate it to district status.”
Clarifying that he is not establishing a political party, Tej Pratap introduced an “open platform” called Team Tej Pratap Yadav, aiming to unite the youth and underrepresented communities. “This is not a political party, but rather a social initiative. Our platform is inclusive for all,” he stated.
He also cautioned his previous party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), saying, “If RJD selects another candidate for Mahua, the voters will ensure that they are defeated.”
Tej Pratap’s return to Mahua, after being moved to Hasanpur in 2020 on his father’s suggestion, signifies a pivotal moment in his political journey—and presents a potential challenge to the RJD.
Although he secured victories under the RJD banner, he was recently expelled from the party and has faced estrangement from the Yadav family due to controversial social media content and viral images with a woman named Anuska Yadav.
His decision to run independently comes at a time when political dynamics are shifting ahead of the anticipated October-November Assembly elections, as the term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly concludes on November 22, 2025.
Political analysts suggest that Tej Pratap’s announcement may disrupt traditional RJD support in Mahua, possibly encouraging other dissenting voices within the party.
Some experts view this as a preliminary step towards establishing a distinct political identity, particularly highlighted by his focus on “youth engagement, emotional connection, and open governance.”
