Patna, March 5 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, responded sharply to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday, asserting that he has been instrumental in making Kumar the CM on two occasions and that the JDU only continues to exist due to his backing.

Tejashwi's pointed remarks followed Nitish Kumar's statement claiming that he was responsible for Lalu Prasad Yadav's ascent to the position of CM in 1990.

Tejashwi termed the assertion misleading, saying, “I find it quite astonishing that he would make such a claim inside the Bihar Assembly. This statement is not only misleading but also far removed from the truth. Nitish Kumar should recall that when my father was an MLA twice and an MP once, he (Nitish) was a nobody. My father has been a key player in the rise of many Prime Ministers of the nation.”

He ridiculed Kumar’s comments, emphasizing that the JDU currently ranks as the third-largest party in Bihar. “I was the one who made Nitish Kumar the CM twice, which is why the JDU still exists today,”

Tejashwi remarked, referring to the 2015 Assembly elections and Kumar's split from the BJP in 2022.

In a jab at Nitish Kumar, he stated, “The system in Bihar is dysfunctional and exhausted. The government is being run by retired officials and a weary Chief Minister. If he remains in power for much longer, he will make the entire state deteriorate.”

Earlier, during a session of the Bihar Assembly, Nitish Kumar had claimed: “I was the one who made Lalu Prasad Yadav the Chief Minister in 1990, even when individuals from his own caste (Yadav) were against him.”

Kumar dismissed Tejashwi Yadav’s criticisms, labeling him a “child” and asserting that he lacks understanding of history. He mentioned that when he assumed power in 2005, Bihar had no roads, hospitals, or infrastructure.

This exchange underscores the entrenched rivalry between Nitish Kumar and the Yadav family as Bihar prepares for Assembly elections, which could influence alliances and voter perceptions in the region.
