Hyderabad, March 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, stated on Thursday that had his administration engaged in vindictive politics, opposition members would have found themselves incarcerated. In his address to the Assembly, he noted that the opposition would not have been able to freely express themselves from their seats if he had resorted to such tactics.
"They would be behind bars in Chanchalguda or Cherlapally jail, just as I was imprisoned during the BRS regime,” he remarked.
Reflecting on his past as an MP, Revanth Reddy mentioned that he faced charges for the illegal use of drones. "Despite the law stipulating a mere Rs 500 fine, the previous BRS government misused its authority to confine me to Cherlapally prison," he explained.
The Chief Minister recounted being held in a detention cell for 16 days, where he was denied visitors and subjected to constant lighting to disrupt his sleep.
"Even as an MP, I was treated like a dangerous criminal. Those who acted with vengeance against me faced divine punishment, as they ended up in the hospital,” he stated.
He also mentioned that during a previous jail term, he was granted interim bail to attend his daughter's wedding. "Wasn't this a case of political vendetta against me? Yet, I chose not to retaliate. If I had wished for revenge, your entire family would have been in Cherlapally jail," he asserted, directing his comments at K.T. Rama Rao of the BRS.
Revanth Reddy noted that many have questioned why K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and KTR have not been incarcerated. He claimed he has shown restraint because the public did not empower him for vindictive politics.
During a robust exchange with KTR about the state budget, Revanth Reddy highlighted that his government has forgiven farm loans totaling Rs 26,000 crore in just six months, while the BRS had only waived Rs 13,000 crore during its first term. He criticized the BRS for delaying the loan waiver, which ultimately resulted in Rs 8,500 crore in accrued interest.
The Chief Minister accused the BRS administration of redesigning irrigation projects for personal gain, claiming that KCR seized land from the impoverished while sparing that of his relatives.
Earlier, KTR had accused Revanth Reddy of personal hypocrisy and incompetence, alleging that he involved his family, including minors, in political disputes.
KTR portrayed Revanth Reddy as a political burden, stating, "Defeat follows wherever Revanth goes." He remarked on Revanth's campaigning in other states and the recent MLC elections, suggesting that his words would deter voters from supporting Congress for years.
KTR further criticized Revanth Reddy, labeling him "Rifle Reddy" and claiming he aimed a weapon at Telangana, while he referred to KCR as the true architect of the Telangana movement.
Moreover, KTR accused Revanth Reddy of eliminating seasoned Congress leaders to seize authority, asserting, "He celebrates victories for poor governance." KTR concluded by stating, "We ignore what the Chief Minister believes or does. He perceives power and status as everlasting, but nothing is. Only courts can send anyone to jail."
