Hyderabad, Jan 11 (NationPress) The police department of Telangana is set to initiate a road safety initiative titled ‘Arrive Alive’, commencing on January 12, with the goal of minimizing road accidents across the state.
The formal inauguration will be conducted by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium located in Hyderabad.
On Sunday, Director General of Police Sri B. Shivadhar Reddy announced that this campaign will span ten days statewide, from January 13 to 24, while excluding festival holidays.
The DGP emphasized that the primary aim of this initiative is to notably decrease road accidents and fatalities through public engagement. He stated that the essence of ‘Arrive Alive’ is to deeply engrain the significance of road safety in the consciousness of every citizen in Telangana.
He has urged all police personnel, from senior officers to base-level staff, to dedicate themselves fully to the success of this movement.
The DGP outlined that the campaign's objectives include transforming public behavior regarding road safety, instilling a culture of defensive driving, and fortifying road safety systems from villages to districts.
The ambition is to position Telangana as a model state for road safety within the country, engaging students, youth, celebrities, NGOs, corporate entities, media, public representatives, and all government departments, including the judiciary.
The focus of this initiative will be on combating hazardous practices such as the failure to wear helmets—particularly by pillion riders—neglecting seatbelt use in both front and back seats, mobile phone usage while driving, driving under the influence, incorrect side driving, ignoring signals, crossing stop lines, overloading autos on highways, meter violations, misuse of high beam lights, and overtaking from the left.
This campaign will be managed at the district level under the guidance of the Police Commissioner or District SP, collaborating with district officers from all departments.
At the divisional level, the campaign will be spearheaded by SDPOs, at the mandal level by CIs and SIs, and in villages through traffic safety committees led by the Sarpanch to foster public awareness. The initiative will also involve teachers, Anganwadi workers, youth, NCC representatives, and auto drivers.
Throughout this ten-day drive, special programs will be focused on promoting defensive driving, student and youth engagement, rural road safety, family safety, and a zero-tolerance stance on drunk driving, in addition to initiatives involving celebrities and media, corporate and transport sectors, and volunteer organizations.
The police chief added that there will be comprehensive awareness campaigns in partnership with village assemblies, educational institutions, auto-rickshaws, RTC buses, private travel services, cab services, kite festivals, rangoli events, road campaigns, targeted efforts at accident-prone spots, malls, markets, Rythu Bazaars, government offices, hospitals, companies, factories, and religious organizations.
Shivadhar Reddy confirmed that he has directed Police Commissioners and SPs to uniformly and thoroughly implement the ‘Arrive Alive’ initiative across the state.
The DGP called for collective efforts to address road accidents, urging public cooperation to make Telangana a benchmark for road safety nationally.
