Hyderabad, April 1 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Bharat Rashtra Samithi Working President K. T. Rama Rao have accused the Telangana government of ignoring court directives and harming the environment by demolishing trees on 400 acres of land at Kancha Gachibowli adjacent to the University of Hyderabad.
Rama Rao labeled it as ‘green murder’ and urged top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to step in.
BJP leader Bandi Sanjay asserted that the land is embroiled in litigation, and the High Court has instructed the state government to submit a response by April 7.
He expressed his discontent on ‘X’, criticizing the Congress government over the land matter amidst ongoing protests by student organizations, environmentalists, and opposition parties against the government’s choice to clear the land and sell it for the establishment of multi-use infrastructures and IT parks.
The Union Minister described the land sale as the height of opportunism by the Congress government. “The 400 acres earmarked for auction by the State government are within forest limits. The Supreme Court explicitly prohibits deforestation without the Center’s approval. The land is currently under High Court litigation; the Court has instructed the government to file a counter by April 7. Still, the government is ignoring the Court, bulldozing trees, and wreaking havoc on the environment,” he posted.
The BJP leader accused the Congress government of being more detrimental than the previous BRS administration, as it attempts to seize thousands of crores through unlawful deforestation and auctioning. “Didn’t the Chief Minister once stand against such land sales? A Future City for the affluent, lathis for future generations — is this the Congress blueprint?” he questioned.
Insisting that the government retract the auction decision immediately, he cautioned that the people will respond accordingly.
In the meantime, K. T. Rama Rao shared on his social media platforms images and videos of trees being cleared on the 400-acre site. “This is blatant green murder by annihilating 400 acres of invaluable green space in western Hyderabad. You can hear the peacocks pleading for help as the bulldozers and JCBs of the Congress Government ravage the area,” he stated.
“If you don’t raise your voice now, it’s on you Mr. Rahul Gandhi,” added the BRS leader.
