Hyderabad, July 6 (NationPress) The tragic incident at Sigachi Industries Ltd’s manufacturing facility in Pashamylaram, located near Hyderabad, has tragically increased the death toll to 42 as of Sunday. Two injured workers passed away while receiving treatment at a Patancheru hospital.
In a statement released on Sunday night, Sigachi Industries expressed its sorrow over the loss of two additional team members since July 4, culminating in a total of 42 fatalities.
Among the 33 injured team members, 14 have since recovered and been discharged, while 18 continue to receive care in various medical facilities.
Furthermore, eight team members remain unaccounted for. Out of the 143 individuals who were present during the explosion, 61 are confirmed to be safe, as per the company's statement.
Established in 1989, the Sigachi Industries’ Pashamylaram plant had maintained an incident-free record for 36 years. The facility is ISO 45001:2018 certified and adheres to rigorous safety and compliance standards.
“Since the accident, we have been actively coordinating emergency responses, providing family support, and assisting with ongoing investigations,” the company stated.
A significant explosion rocked the manufacturing plant of Sigachi Industries in Pashamylaram, Patancheru Mandal, Sangareddy district on June 30.
The plant is engaged in the production of Microcrystalline Cellulose powder, which serves as a binding agent in tablets and capsules.
Rescue teams have discovered 30 human remains at the site, which are currently undergoing DNA analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Hyderabad.
Officials at Patancheru Government Hospital reported that of the 24 DNA samples collected, 22 bodies have been identified and returned to their families.
The deceased individuals originated from Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. Authorities are ensuring the bodies are transported back to their native locations with police escort, with two police constables accompanying each.
Emergency personnel from Fire Services, SDRF, HYDRAA, and police continue to search the debris for any remaining human remains. Officials have confirmed that this operation will persist until all remains are recovered.
In a show of support, Sigachi Industries has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for each family affected by the tragedy. The company has also pledged to cover all medical expenses for the injured and provide ongoing assistance.
