Raisen, Nov 26 (NationPress) The disturbing case involving the rape of a 6-year-old girl in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh has sparked rising communal tensions in the region. Local residents attempted to access areas inhabited by the Muslim community after reports indicated that the alleged perpetrator is a member of that minority group.
Despite extensive searches conducted over the last five days, the police have yet to apprehend the suspect, identified as a 23-year-old named Salman.
As criticism mounted regarding the police's failure to make an arrest, tensions escalated in the Goharganj area, where protesters highlighted the suspect's religious background.
On Wednesday, a group of young demonstrators staged a peaceful protest outside a school in Gauharganj, accompanied by a heavy police presence. They attempted to march towards a Muslim settlement, but police intervened before they could proceed.
In response to the crowd's anger, stones were thrown at law enforcement, leading to the use of force to disperse the unruly group.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prashant Khare assured that the situation was under control, with additional forces from nearby districts, including Bhopal, deployed to the area.
Earlier that day, a significant number of right-wing activists associated with various groups joined the protest, carrying banners with slogans such as ‘Batoge to Katoge’ and ‘Jai Sri Ram’.
The Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, has expressed strong dissatisfaction not only regarding the police's inability to locate the suspect, who remains at large, but also concerning their inadequate response to the large-scale public demonstrations.
In light of the situation, the Chief Minister transferred Raisen Superintendent of Police Vivek Pandey on Tuesday and instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to locate the suspect, Salman.
On November 21, Salman is alleged to have lured the young girl, who was playing outside her home, into a nearby forest with the promise of chocolate, before sexually assaulting her.
The victim was discovered unconscious in the woods and was subsequently transported to AIIMS Bhopal for medical treatment.
