Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 19 (NationPress) During a significant gathering at Shivtirth celebrating Gudi Padwa and the 20th anniversary of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), party leader Raj Thackeray delivered a pointed critique of the deteriorating law and order in the state, specifically calling out the Home Department under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Thackeray voiced serious worries regarding the surge in drug abuse, warning that narcotics have pervaded educational institutions.
“Are we transforming Maharashtra into a land of addiction?” he challenged.
He also underscored the “appalling” conditions in urban areas, asserting that the stagnation in rural development is driving young individuals to migrate to cities, which are becoming overwhelmed and plagued by crime. He connected the urban pressure to the increasing drug accessibility and the alarming rate of missing children.
In a stark presentation of statistics, Thackeray revealed that “approximately 82 minors vanished within just 36 days in November and December. From January to November 2025, 499 children were reported missing in Navi Mumbai. Although most have been found through police interventions, 41 remain unaccounted for,” he stated.
According to NCRB statistics, he highlighted that between 4,500 to 5,500 children go missing each year in the state, with 5,398 cases reported in 2022 and 4,619 in 2023. Notably, the number of missing girls is disproportionately high, with Mumbai alone recording upwards of 2,000 cases annually.
To commemorate two decades of his party, Thackeray invoked the legacies of Maharashtra’s legendary figures. He honored Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, alongside social reformers Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Phule, and Annabhau Sathe. These references served to remind supporters of the state’s profound heritage in the fields of arts, literature, science, and politics.
In a rare departure from conventional political discourse, Raj Thackeray praised NCP founder Sharad Pawar for his role in the state’s growth, despite their “numerous political disagreements.” He specifically acknowledged Pawar for initiating the horticulture revolution in Maharashtra, which has led to the widespread availability of various fruits to the populace.
He reminisced about his visit to Baramati, commending Pawar's integration of AI technology in agriculture as a standard for contemporary farming.
Thackeray also paid tribute to his mentor and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, invoking his legacy to galvanize the Marathi community and promote Hindutva.
