Thiruvananthapuram, April 4 (NationPress) As the Kerala Assembly elections approach, Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan expressed concerns on Saturday that the latest events in the state's election campaign indicate a ruling coalition that is "on the back foot" and grappling to maintain public trust.

Referring to the recent attack on the security team of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor at a campaign rally in Wandoor on Friday night, Satheesan remarked that this incident reflects the prevailing political atmosphere.

He stated, "When popular figures attract sizable crowds, such negative reactions signify desperation from the opposing side," implying that the occurrence highlights the increasing momentum of the Opposition's efforts.

Satheesan also pointed out a rise in what he termed “manufactured and biased election surveys” being disseminated across social media and other channels.

He believes these surveys are strategically employed to shape perceptions during the crucial final phase of the campaign.

“These polls aim to mislead the electorate and fabricate a deceptive narrative. This only underscores the anxiety within the ruling party,” he commented.

“The UDF is set to achieve a resounding victory with 100 seats,” Satheesan asserted.

Shifting his critique towards Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Satheesan accused him of showing a potential “soft corner” towards the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in recent comments.

He highlighted that even within Leftist factions, including discussions at the CPI-M Party Congress, the SDPI is labeled as an extremist organization.

“In a bid for a few additional votes and to maintain relevance, the Chief Minister seems willing to reach out indiscriminately,” Satheesan said, emphasizing that such actions raise significant political and ideological concerns.

Satheesan concluded that the cumulative impact of these incidents—the attack during the campaign, the spread of dubious surveys, and fluctuating political signals—portrays a ruling front under considerable strain.

As the campaigning reaches its concluding phase, Satheesan affirmed that the Opposition will remain focused on voter-centric issues, confident that the electorate will "see through the attempts to distort the narrative" and deliver a decisive outcome.

Point of View

The electorate's response will be crucial in determining the future political direction of the state.
