The Urgent Call for One Nation, One Election: Insights from Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) With the topic of one nation, one election making headlines again, BJP leader and former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stated on Sunday that conducting simultaneous polls is a necessity at this moment.

In an interview with IANS, he remarked, “Over the past decade under PM Narendra Modi, numerous significant constitutional reforms have been implemented. I believe these reforms were long overdue, as they had been pending for several decades. This progress is a reflection of strong ideation. Hence, one nation, one election is indeed a pressing requirement.”

“This reform will bolster our constitutional values and uphold our dignity. Additionally, it will simplify the electoral process for citizens, allowing them to grasp the election system in a more straightforward and seamless manner. Currently, elections for various bodies such as the Assembly, Lok Sabha, and local bodies are conducted sporadically, which leads to a state of perpetual electoral engagement in the country. Therefore, it is essential,” the BJP leader emphasized.

Furthermore, the 'One Nation, One Election' Bill, formally known as the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, will not be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday, as the revised agenda for the Lower House does not include this bill.

Naqvi also addressed comments made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, who urged the BJP and Congress to refrain from exploiting historical figures like Veer Savarkar and Jawaharlal Nehru for political purposes.

He responded to IANS, stating, “In fact, he should direct this advice towards his own allies, as both Nehru and Savarkar significantly contributed to the nation's development. This is an undeniable fact.”

“However, the Congress party has consistently criticized Savarkar. We must show respect to both Nehru ji and Savarkar ji,” Naqvi concluded.

Previously, Aaditya Thackeray had commented, 'The Congress and BJP should cease blaming Jawaharlal Nehru or Vinayak Damodar Savarkar for their political agendas and instead concentrate on the future.'
