This administration is supporting farmers like a father nurtures his child: Samba farmer on cultivating exotic vegetables

Samba, Dec 29 (NationPress) Farmers in Samba district of Jammu & Kashmir are transitioning away from conventional crops to cultivate exotic vegetables for enhanced profitability.
Arjun Singh, a farmer from the Ramgarh tehsil in Samba district, exemplifies this shift. He has begun to grow zucchini, an exotic vegetable originating from Europe, and is pleased with the profits it has yielded.
As a first-time zucchini grower, Arjun Singh shared with IANS that the government has been instrumental in his efforts. “Growing this vegetable has been incredibly advantageous for me,” he stated.
Another farmer, Karan Singh, visited Arjun Singh’s farm. “I learned that he acquired these new seeds and wanted to discuss it with him. He mentioned that this crop demands less effort while providing greater output,” he noted during his conversation with IANS.
“We used to cultivate wheat and paddy, but those crops yield insufficient returns, and our costs are rising. If the government continues to support us, I plan to consult with Arjun Singh and start growing this vegetable for better profits,” he expressed.
Highlighting the government’s assistance for farmers, Singh added: “I’ve heard that the agriculture department offers substantial help with seed procurement. I am hopeful for similar support.”
“This administration is assisting farmers just as a father would guide his son. There are subsidies, aid in seed procurement, and efforts to educate farmers to become self-reliant. More individuals should come, observe this progress, learn, and improve their income sources,” he remarked.
The Chief Agriculture Officer of Samba, Madan Gopal, stated that farmers in the district are being encouraged to adopt modern agricultural practices. “Today, farmers are achieving better income through new techniques and the cultivation of foreign vegetables. The Agriculture Department is offering them comprehensive support,” he mentioned.
“An increasing number of farmers are now eager to cultivate this crop as they pursue maximum returns. With this crop, farmers can enjoy benefits exceeding five times that of traditional farming methods. The Government of J&K’s holistic agriculture development program includes provisions for exotic vegetables that farmers can utilize,” he concluded.
