Three Arrested in Connection with the Murder of a Woman in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 16 (NationPress) On Sunday, the Odisha Police apprehended three individuals, one of whom is the husband of a woman who was allegedly murdered in Cuttack district, as reported by officials.

"The resolution of this case exemplifies a thorough investigation along with the collaboration of Odisha Police, Gujarat Police, and various district police units within Odisha. Additionally, it highlights the valuable assistance from the community in solving the case," stated Jagmohan Meena, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Cuttack.

On the morning of December 13, the body of a woman was discovered along the banks of the Kathajodi river close to the Kandarpur police station.

The police, accompanied by a scientific team and dog squad, arrived at the scene to gather evidence, which included the weapon used in the crime, a "Chapad".

Initial investigations through CCTV footage, local police stations, and neighboring villages yielded no leads.

However, police uncovered a significant clue in the form of blood-stained clothing found in the water near the crime scene.

These garments were tagged with a receipt from "New Star Tailors".

The Cuttack DCP mentioned that the police explored ten tailoring shops with that name or similar ones across the state, but none matched the receipt.

After widespread publicity, an anonymous individual sent a message via WhatsApp, indicating a shop with that name existed in the Bhanjanagar area of Ganjam, as suggested in a YouTube comment.

Following this tip, DCP Meena reported that the Ganjam police visited the specified tailor's shop.

The shop owner, who had previously worked in Gujarat, informed the police that such receipt designs were commonly used there.

Consequently, the Odisha Police reached out to their counterparts in Gujarat, who were able to trace the tailor's shop in Surat.

During their verification of approximately 7-8 shops in Surat, the Gujarat Police found that the design on the paper receipt matched one from a particular shop.

Using the UPI payment history from the shop owner, police identified the blood-stained clothing as belonging to the suspect Jagannath Duhuri, 27, a resident of MahakalaPada in Kendrapara.

Upon a request from Cuttack Police, the police in Rayagada district apprehended Duhuri while he was returning to Surat by train in the Muniguda area of Odisha on December 14.

Subsequently, the police arrested the other suspects: Balaram Duhuri, the husband of the deceased, and his brother Happi Duhury.

According to the Cuttack DCP, the motive behind the crime stemmed from a marital dispute, with Balaram suspecting his wife of having an extra-marital affair.

The accused individuals are scheduled to be presented in court on Monday.
