Hyderabad, December 14 (NationPress) - The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has successfully apprehended three individuals involved in drug trafficking, seizing 11 grams of MDMA in the process.

In a coordinated effort with the Masab Tank police, H-NEW officials detained Upputuri Kartheek, Chirumamilla Balaji, and Tandra Deepak, confiscating 11 grams of MDMA, three mobile devices, one two-wheeler, and one four-wheeler, collectively valued at Rs.4.65 lakh.

Kartheek, also known as Alex, aged 37, hails from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, while Balaji, 32, and Deepak, 29, are residents of Jeedimetla in Medchal Malkajgiri district of Telangana.

Police reports indicate that Kartheek, facing financial difficulties, turned to drug trafficking after learning about MDMA procurement from his brother-in-law, Balaji, who has a criminal history. He began traveling to Bengaluru to source the drug from suppliers, repackaging MDMA into 1-gram packets for sale in Hyderabad.

Balaji, a previous MDMA user, had been involved in a case under the NDPS Act for drug trafficking. After his release from incarceration, he resumed selling MDMA to support his extravagant lifestyle. He purchased the drug from Kartheek at Rs 4,000 per gram and sold it at a markup. He later recruited Deepak, a frequent user, into the trafficking operation, providing him with MDMA for resale.

Deepak, currently a B.Tech (Civil) student employed at a company, became addicted to MDMA. To fund his luxurious lifestyle, he transitioned from personal use to selling the drug to acquaintances. He began operating as a sub-peddler under Balaji, sourcing MDMA for Rs 5,000 per gram for resale.

Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Task Force/HNEW, has expressed concern over the rising rates of addiction among the youth, warning of the severe ramifications for families and society at large.

H-NEW urges the community to avoid substance abuse and advises parents to monitor their children's activities to prevent drug involvement.

Point of View

It is imperative to acknowledge the alarming rise in drug-related incidents, particularly among the youth. The operations led by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing reflect a growing concern that needs immediate attention. Substance abuse not only devastates families but also threatens the fabric of society. Continuous efforts are required to combat this epidemic and protect future generations.
