Bhopal, March 25 (NationPress) In a significant setback for Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh, security forces have successfully eliminated three Naxalites during an intense gun battle close to the Dantewada-Bijapur border.

The confrontation reportedly occurred along the banks of the Indravati River, representing another crucial achievement in the ongoing fight against extremism in the region.

Gaurav Rai, Superintendent of Police for Dantewada district, confirmed the incident and informed IANS, “Three Naxalites were killed early Tuesday morning, and their bodies have been retrieved.”

He emphasized that the forces have established a dominant presence in the vicinity, with operations ongoing to ensure total control.

According to various police sources, intelligence reports indicating the presence of notorious Maoists led to the deployment of troops into the core area early on Tuesday. Gunfire has been ongoing since 8 a.m., with the Maoists reportedly encircled.

However, the complete details of the operation will only emerge once the encounter concludes and search efforts are finalized.

This recent clash follows a significant offensive in the same area just days prior.

Four days earlier, security forces had neutralized 30 Maoists in two separate engagements—26 on the Dantewada-Bijapur border and four in Kanker. The operation, however, concluded with a tragic loss as a courageous soldier from the District Reserve Guard lost his life; meanwhile, two others, including a deputy superintendent of police, suffered serious injuries. Both are currently in stable condition.

On Sunday, the Maoists also detonated an improvised explosive device targeting a vehicle transporting security personnel. The explosion narrowly missed its target, occurring just after the vehicle passed through the area in Bijapur district. Two jawans and the civilian driver sustained minor injuries from the shockwaves.

The Maoists have encountered substantial challenges during their Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) month. Sources indicate that recent operations were informed by vital intelligence, highlighting the strategic effectiveness of the forces in dismantling Maoist strongholds.
