Tragic Fall: Three Laborers Lose Lives at Hyderabad Construction Site
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 5 (NationPress) - In a tragic incident, three laborers lost their lives and two were injured after falling from the fifth floor of a building under construction in Hyderabad on Thursday, as reported by police.
The accident took place in Al-Hasnat Colony, located in the Tolichowki region, when the scaffolding gave way.
Authorities indicated that two of the workers died instantly, while the third did not survive despite receiving medical attention.
The injured workers, who fell onto bricks and debris, were quickly transported to a nearby hospital by local residents.
The deceased have been identified as migrant workers hailing from Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.
The police have filed a case and launched an investigation. Initial findings suggest that a failure to adhere to safety regulations during construction work contributed to this unfortunate event.
State Labour Minister Vivek Venkataswamy reached out to officials by phone, instructing them to ensure the injured receive the best possible care.
The minister has requested a detailed report outlining the circumstances of the incident and the health status of the injured workers.
Dr. Dasoju Sravan, MLC of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), visited the site and expressed his sorrow over this unfortunate event.
He noted that individuals traveling in an auto and a car nearby at the time of the incident also sustained injuries.
Sravan raised concerns about how permission was granted for a seven-story building on a plot of land that measures less than 300 square yards. He called for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to explain the rationale behind such construction approvals.
Furthermore, he criticized both GHMC and the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) for their lack of action against the increasing number of illegal constructions throughout the city.
Sravan alleged that building permits for these illegal structures are being issued in exchange for bribes, endangering the lives of citizens. He pointed out the recent rise in incidents of fires and construction-related accidents, emphasizing the government's failure to enforce safety standards effectively.
The BRS party condemned the government for focusing on demolishing the homes of the underprivileged while ignoring widespread illegal construction. They demanded immediate action from HYDRAA officials and the District Collector regarding the Tolichowki incident, calling for a thorough investigation and strict penalties for those responsible.
