Thrissur, Feb 14 (NationPress) In a shocking daytime bank robbery, an individual armed with a knife intruded into the Federal Bank branch located at Pota, close to Chalakudy, Thrissur, around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, escaping with roughly Rs 15 lakh after threatening the bank personnel.
Eyewitnesses and CCTV footage reveal that the perpetrator arrived on a motorcycle, donned in a helmet and jacket, and was carrying a shoulder bag. He parked his vehicle in front of the bank before making his entrance.
Upon entering, he brandished a knife at the employees, compelling them into a cabin before shattering the glass panes of the cash counter with a chair. He then seized the cash from the counter’s cash box and fled the location.
A shopkeeper neighboring the bank mentioned that the incident unfolded around 2 p.m., but the robbery only became apparent when bank employees managed to sound the alarm.
Another witness mentioned that the bank employed eight staff members; however, several had stepped out for lunch during the attack, leaving only a few employees present.
In response to the event, local Congress legislator Sanish Kumar Joseph criticized the police for their inadequate handling of law and order.
"I have been informed that the staff was threatened with a knife and locked in a cabin. The fact that someone could execute such an act in broad daylight underscores the vulnerabilities in our security system," Joseph remarked.
Senior police officials have since arrived at the scene, and an alert has been dispatched to all nearby police stations to track down the suspect. A manhunt is currently in progress.
Police are also questioning bank staff and reviewing CCTV footage to gather additional details regarding the incident.
