Chennai, Aug 19 (NationPress) The engineering admissions counselling process officially concluded on August 16, and candidates belonging to the general category can look forward to the release of the consolidated provisional allotment list on Wednesday.
This announcement will bring clarity to thousands of students who took part in the third round of counselling within the Tamil Nadu engineering admissions framework.
According to officials from the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), only 92,400 seats have been occupied out of the total 1.86 lakh seats available in engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu, despite two rounds of counselling being completed. This suggests that nearly half of the seats remain unfilled as the counselling process approaches its conclusion.
In the recently completed third round of counselling, around 1,29,516 students were invited to participate.
Out of these, 64,629 candidates received tentative allotment orders.
A senior official from DoTE noted that many students took advantage of the upward choice facility, allowing them to apply for higher-preference courses or institutions if seats became available.
“Among those who received tentative orders, approximately 15,000 applications have opted for upward choice,” the official stated.
He further mentioned that all such applications are currently under review before the final list is published. The consolidated provisional list will include all students who participated in the third round of counselling, ensuring transparency in the allocation process.
The publication of this list on Wednesday is anticipated to eliminate the uncertainty for many aspirants eager to learn their final admissions status.
Furthermore, a supplementary counselling session is slated for August 21 to 26. This round is specifically designed for students who passed their Class 12 board exams in June and were thus ineligible for earlier counselling rounds.
Education authorities are optimistic that this additional opportunity will enable more students to secure seats, despite ongoing trends indicating a decrease in overall admissions compared to the total capacity.
With a considerable number of engineering seats still available, the results of the supplementary counselling and students' willingness to accept allotments in the coming days will be closely monitored by educational planners and institutions throughout Tamil Nadu.
