Indore, March 19 (NationPress) A tragic event overshadowed the lively atmosphere of Indore’s renowned Rangpanchami festivities, prompting Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to withdraw his attendance from the celebrations.
On his official X account, the Chief Minister conveyed his deep condolences upon hearing the unfortunate news about an individual who lost their life due to injuries from a tractor accident. To assist the bereaved family, he declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh.
Dr. Yadav was expected to partake in the Gair festivities and support the initiative to attain UNESCO recognition for this celebration. The globally recognized Gair procession, a highlight of Rangpanchami in Indore—known as India’s cleanest city—is currently underway. This festive occasion features nearly a million liters of water and thousands of kilograms of colorful ‘gulaal’ filling the atmosphere with vibrancy.
Preparations for this grand event were already in full swing. This year, three Gair processions and one Phag Yatra are being held, with the historic Rajwada being shielded from the splashes of color. In accordance with tradition, the city has declared a public holiday to celebrate this occasion.
Each year, the streets of Indore burst into life during Rangpanchami, as both locals and visitors enjoy a dazzling display of colors. Rangpanchami signifies the grand conclusion of Holi—a festival deeply ingrained in Hindu customs, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. The celebrations commence with Holika Dahan, an evening bonfire on the full moon night of Phalguna, accompanied by songs, dances, and prayers that honor the legendary tale of Holika’s defeat.
As Indore bids farewell to the colorful season, the iconic Gair procession continues to embody the city’s pride. Since 2020, the district administration and organizers have been pursuing UNESCO recognition enthusiastically.
