Patna, February 24 (NationPress) - A devastating road mishap on NH-31 close to Bagdi Bridge in the vicinity of Jhandapur police station in Bhagalpur district resulted in the loss of four lives and left 16 individuals injured on Tuesday evening.

As reported by the officer in charge of the Jhandapur police outpost, a reckless truck collided with a pickup van near Bagdi Bridge.

This collision caused the pickup van to veer off course, crashing into both an e-rickshaw and a bus traveling in the opposite direction, leading to a chaotic multi-vehicle accident.

Tragically, four individuals died instantly, while a total of sixteen others suffered injuries, with several in critical condition.

All four deceased were passengers in the e-rickshaw.

Local authorities quickly arrived at the scene after the accident was reported, transporting the injured to the Bihpur Community Health Centre (CHC).

Given the severity of their injuries, many victims were referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, also referred to as Mayaganj Hospital, for advanced medical care.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Mayaganj Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Among the victims, three hailed from Sameli in Katihar district, while one was from Mansi in Khagaria district.

The identities of the injured individuals are currently being confirmed. The group consists of a woman, a child, and two laborers, who were reportedly returning from their work at a brick kiln at the time of the accident.

Prerna Kumar, Superintendent of Police in Navgachhia, confirmed the incident, stating: “The accident transpired near Bagdi Bridge within the jurisdiction of Jhandapur police station around 5:30 PM on Tuesday. Four individuals died on the spot, and 16 more were injured. Some victims are in critical condition and have been referred to Bhagalpur for better medical attention. Those with minor injuries are receiving treatment at the subdivisional hospital.”

Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the accident, and traffic on NH-31 experienced temporary disruptions following the collision.
