Tragic Collapse of Under-Construction Bridge Claims Lives of Three Labourers in Budhni, MP

Bhopal, Dec 23 (NationPress) At least three labourers were tragically killed and another seriously injured when a substantial concrete slab from an under-construction bridge fell upon them in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore on Monday.
The injured labourer was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition but was subsequently referred to Narmadapuram for advanced medical care. This unfortunate event took place in Budhni, under the jurisdiction of Shahganj police station, approximately 60 km from Bhopal.
According to Budhni Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Shashank Gurjar, the construction of a new bridge next to an existing one was in progress, with four labourers engaged in the work.
“While the workers were excavating soil beneath the bridge, a significant concrete slab from the older bridge collapsed, burying all of them. One of the four labourers was rescued alive, while three others sadly perished,” SDOP conveyed to the media.
The deceased have been identified as Karan (18), Ramkrishna (32), and Bhagwanlal (35). The sole survivor, who is currently recovering in the hospital, is identified as Sukhram (25).
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow over this devastating incident and directed the Sehore district administration to ensure the injured receives the best possible medical treatment. He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of each deceased worker.
“The news of the untimely demise of three workers due to the collapse of the soil under construction in Budhni is heartbreaking. I pray for peace for the souls of the deceased and extend my deepest condolences to their families,” the Chief Minister stated.
Additionally, he informed that the Sehore district administration has been instructed to provide any necessary financial assistance to the families of the deceased and injured in accordance with established regulations.
It is noteworthy that Budhni is the hometown of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a four-time former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and current Union Agriculture Minister.
