Patna, Aug 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, on Monday expressed profound sadness regarding two separate fatal incidents in Muzaffarpur and Samastipur, resulting in the loss of eight lives, including five children.
In the Katra block of Muzaffarpur, five children tragically drowned on Sunday in a lake near Gordhova Pul Litchi Gachi in Khangura and Bandhpura Panchayat.
The victims have been identified as Mohammad Anas (15), son of Mohammad Shahzad; Mohammad Hidayatullah (14), son of Mohammad Reyaz; Mohammad Hamza Ali (12), son of Kallu alias Mustafa; Mohammad Rehman (12), son of Mohammad Aftab, and Abbu Taleem (12), son of Nargis Praveen.
According to local residents, the children had ventured to bathe when they became trapped in the lake and subsequently drowned.
Their bodies were retrieved by villagers with the assistance of divers before being sent to SKMCH for autopsy.
Chief Minister Kumar stated, “The loss of five children due to drowning in Khanguradih-Bandhpura lake is incredibly tragic. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the grieving families. An ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each will be provided immediately to the families of those who have passed.”

The infant, who was in Shanti Devi’s lap at that time, suffered severe burn injuries and was transferred to Samastipur Sadar Hospital after receiving initial care at PHC Vibhutipur.
Expressing his sorrow, Nitish Kumar remarked, “The electrocution incident in Vibhutipur, Samastipur, is deeply upsetting. My condolences go out to the families affected. The Energy Department has been instructed to provide ex gratia compensation to the next of kin in accordance with regulations.”
