Kolkata, Nov 24 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking event, three children lost their lives and two others sustained injuries when a pool car they were in veered off course and plunged into a pond. This unfortunate occurrence took place in Uluberia, located in Howrah district, on Monday afternoon. The authorities have since taken the driver into custody.

Police reports indicate the accident transpired around 3:30 p.m. while the vehicle was returning from a nearby school, carrying five students.

Witnesses claim that the driver lost control near Bahira village. Local residents noted that the car was speeding and seemed to be attempting to overtake another vehicle.

The vehicle containing the students drove directly into a pond, becoming submerged. Immediately after the incident, locals hurried to the scene to commence rescue operations. Police were alerted, and divers were subsequently dispatched.

Eventually, all five students were rescued and taken to Uluberia's Sarat Chandra Medical College and Hospital. Medical personnel examined the three children but sadly declared them deceased. The victims have been identified as Shouvik Das (11), Ishika Mandal (7), and Arin Das (9).

All three were residents of the local area. The other two injured students are currently receiving treatment at the facility.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the community. Howrah Rural Superintendent of Police Subimal Paul stated that the driver is being interrogated by investigators.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the car's loss of control, whether it was due to a mechanical issue or another factor.

Some locals allege that the vehicle ended up in the pond while “racing” against another car.

In the aftermath, a deep sense of sorrow has enveloped the Uluberia community, with residents expressing their grief over the tragic loss of three young lives.
