What is the Training for EROs Ahead of SIR in Telangana?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 19 (NationPress) In preparation for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, a significant training session was conducted on Thursday for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) representing four major districts.
The Chief Electoral Officer, C. Sudarshan Reddy, led an extensive training initiative at the CEO’s Office in Hyderabad, specifically for EROs from Medchal Malkajgiri, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, and Hyderabad.
A total of 50 EROs engaged in this training session, which emphasized the preparation, updating, and management of electoral rolls, alongside an in-depth orientation regarding the upcoming SIR.
The CEO articulated that the purpose of the program was to enhance the capabilities of field officers, ensuring accuracy, inclusiveness, and transparency in the management of electoral rolls.
Special attention was given to statutory provisions, established timelines, claims and objections procedures, and the effective application of technology in electoral processes.
Sudarshan Reddy highlighted the vital role of EROs in upholding the integrity of electoral rolls, directing all officers to guarantee enrollment of eligible citizens while removing ineligible entries as per legal guidelines.
Participants were also informed about best practices, challenges encountered at the field level, and strategies for effective execution of the upcoming SIR. Interactive sessions were organized to address questions and clarify procedural details.
This training initiative is part of the Election Commission's ongoing efforts to facilitate free, fair, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes, as stated by the CEO's office.
Earlier this month, the CEO announced that preparations for the SIR in Telangana have already begun.
He urged political parties to designate at least one Booth Level Agent (BLA) for every polling station.
During a meeting with representatives from recognized political parties on February 5, the CEO emphasized that strong coordination at the booth level would be essential for the exercise.
According to him, BLAs should ideally be residents of the local polling area and work closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Each polling booth must have at least one appointed BLA to ensure accuracy, transparency, and timely resolution of issues during the revision process of electoral rolls.
The CEO informed the political parties that the SIR is currently being carried out in 12 states, with the schedule for the remaining states, including Telangana, expected to be announced around April-May 2026.
