New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) Leaders from various political backgrounds offered sincere tributes to the iconic freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad on his martyrdom anniversary, reflecting on his significant contributions to India’s independence struggle.

Azad, a revolutionary who was pivotal in India's battle against British colonialism, played a vital role in restructuring the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) into the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) after the execution of its founder, Ram Prasad Bismil, alongside Roshan Singh, Rajendra Nath Lahiri, and Ashfaqulla Khan.

His courageous leadership and steadfast commitment to the freedom cause established him as one of the most esteemed figures in India’s revolutionary history.

On February 27, 1931, he arranged to meet a fellow revolutionary in Alfred Park in Allahabad, now known as Azad Park. However, he was betrayed, and upon entering the park, he was encircled by British police.

A fierce gunfight broke out, resulting in injuries to two officers, and Azad was ultimately shot during the altercation, achieving martyrdom while honoring his pledge never to be captured alive by the British.
