Trinamool Congress Leader Arrested in Murshidabad for Allegedly Killing a Man Over Money Dispute

Kolkata, Dec 1 (NationPress) A leader of the Trinamool Congress in Murshidabad district of West Bengal was apprehended on Sunday for allegedly murdering a man who sought the return of funds he had provided to ensure his name was included in the beneficiary list of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.
The individual taken into custody has been named as Mithu Sheikh, while the deceased is identified as Kali Sheikh. Both individuals were residents of Mukundapur village, situated under the Mithipur village panchayat, within the jurisdiction of Raghunathganj police station in Murshidabad.
According to the complaint lodged by Kali Sheikh's family, he had been persistently attempting to have his name added to the PMAY beneficiary list, seeking assistance from various influential figures, including Mithu Sheikh.
Mithu Sheikh had promised to help Kali Sheikh get his name on the list and accepted Rs 5,000 from him for this purpose, as detailed in the complaint.
However, when Kali Sheikh's name failed to appear on the most recent list, he visited Mithu Sheikh's residence on Saturday night to request his money back.
A heated argument ensued between the two, after which Mithu Sheikh allegedly assaulted Kali Sheikh with an iron rod. Neighbors intervened, managing to rescue the severely injured Kali Sheikh and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning. Following this, the victim's family filed a police report, leading to Mithu Sheikh's arrest later that afternoon.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and has proven to be an embarrassment for the Trinamool leadership. The district president of the party, Kalilur Rahaman, remarked that while individuals may commit crimes, the party itself should not bear the blame.
He stated, "The law will take its own course," emphasizing that accountability lies with the individual.
