Kolkata, Jan 15 (NationPress) On Wednesday, the West Bengal Police apprehended the first suspect related to the murder of local Trinamool Congress leader Hasan Sheikh in Kaliachak, Malda district, which occurred on Tuesday morning.
The arrested individual has been identified as Amir Hamza.
During interrogation, he named his accomplice Zakir Sheikh, as per sources within the Malda District Police.
Zakir is suspected to be the mastermind behind the murder and is currently on the run.
Both Hamza and Zakir were reportedly present at the crime scene in the Nayabasti area of Kaliachak when the violent incident unfolded.
Hamza resides in the Nayabasti area where the deadly shooting transpired on Tuesday, resulting in the death of Hasan Sheikh.
Additionally, two other Trinamool Congress leaders, namely Bakul Sheikh and his associate Esaruddin Sheikh, were also injured in the roadside shooting that occurred in broad daylight.
Both individuals were rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital and are reported to be in a critical condition.
This shooting incident follows closely after the murder of Trinamool Congress councillor Dulal Sarkar, also in Malda district, who was killed in a similar shooting on January 2.
Reports indicate that on Tuesday morning, Hasan Sheikh, Bakul Sheikh, and Esaruddin Sheikh gathered in the Nayabasti area of Kaliachak.
Eyewitnesses informed the police that a group of assailants arrived and began firing indiscriminately at the victims.
After sustaining close-range gunshot wounds, Hasan Sheikh, Bakul Sheikh, and Esaruddin Sheikh collapsed.
The severely injured men were swiftly taken to the hospital, where Hasan Sheikh was pronounced dead.
