Kolkata, July 25 (NationPress) Two councillors from the Trinamool Congress have been implicated in a recent supplementary charge sheet by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concerning the post-poll violence incident. These councillors are now accused of targeting the elder sibling of the deceased BJP worker, Abhijit Sarkar, who was the victim of the violence.
Biswajit Sarkar, the elder brother of the murdered BJP worker, filed a police report on Thursday night. He claimed that individuals linked to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) were allegedly acting under the orders of Trinamool Congress councillors Swapan Samaddar and Papiya Ghosh in a failed attempt to kill him near his residence in the Rajabazar locality of North Kolkata.
Both Samaddar and Ghosh, along with Trinamool Congress legislator Pares Pail from the Beliaghata Assembly constituency, have been named as defendants in the CBI’s latest charge sheet.
"Some workers were sent by the KMC to trim tree branches near my residence. Several branches fell and damaged my garage. When I protested, those trimming the trees assaulted me severely. They were dispatched by Swapan Samaddar and Papiya Ghosh with the intent to kill me. They attacked me with a chopper, leaving me with a bleeding nose," he recounted.
In a counter-response, the KMC workers filed a police report against Biswajit Sarkar, alleging that he assaulted them after a heated dispute.
A representative from the city police stated that they are investigating the claims from both parties. "We have initiated an inquiry into this situation," he commented. The two Trinamool Congress councillors could not be reached for comments regarding this matter.
Biswajit’s complaint was lodged shortly after a city sessions court placed a retired assistant commissioner of the Kolkata Police, a current sub-inspector, and a home guard in judicial custody after they were named in the CBI’s recent charge sheet related to the incident.
The three Trinamool leaders cited in the charge sheet have also petitioned the Calcutta High Court for anticipatory bail.
