Imphal, Dec 31 (NationPress) Highlighting the significance of early detection and awareness regarding non-communicable diseases (NCDs), Tripura's Chief Minister, Manik Saha, announced on Wednesday that the state’s Health Department is committed to transforming Tripura into a healthier, more aware, and welfare-focused region.
Saha stated that the Mukhyamantri Niramay Arogya Abhiyan (MNAA) has been initiated to guarantee that affordable, quality, and timely healthcare services are accessible to individuals from all sectors of society throughout the state.
He characterized the campaign as a significant and impactful initiative from the state government.
The Chief Minister made these statements during the inauguration of the state-level MNAA at Pragna Bhavan. This initiative has been launched by the state’s Health Department in partnership with the Tripura National Health Mission. An AI-driven pilot training module aimed at tackling tuberculosis (TB) was also introduced at this event.
Celebrating the day as pivotal for the Health Department, Saha, who oversees the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, noted that this represents a new milestone in its endeavors.
“Globally, non-communicable diseases pose a serious threat. Currently, around 65% of the Indian populace is afflicted by such diseases. Delayed detection elevates the risk of complications, making early diagnosis absolutely vital,” he explained.
The Chief Minister highlighted that conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, and various cancers have become increasingly prevalent among individuals over the age of 30.
“Often, these diseases go undetected in their early stages and escalate in severity. To combat this, a preventive and community-focused initiative has been launched to raise awareness, facilitate early detection, and ensure patients receive necessary treatment,” he added.
Saha emphasized, “Awareness and a disciplined lifestyle are crucial for maintaining health. The current state government is dedicated to providing prompt healthcare services, with new health initiatives being rolled out to achieve this aim.”
Focusing on the scale of screening efforts, the Chief Minister revealed that last year, approximately 680,000 individuals were screened for diabetes and high blood pressure in the state.
Out of these, 25,259 were identified with diabetes and 49,153 with high blood pressure. Moreover, 528,000 women were screened for breast cancer, and 100,000 for cervical cancer.
“Those diagnosed have been enrolled for treatment and are under regular follow-up. Given the urgency, this campaign is being executed within a defined time frame and in a mission-oriented manner. Screening, treatment, and follow-up for non-communicable diseases will be facilitated through this program,” he stated.
Regarding the launch of the AI-based TB training module, Saha remarked that it signifies the integration of advanced medical technology in the state.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the importance of human welfare through technological advancements. In line with this vision, the state government is embracing new and innovative methodologies in healthcare,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister also called upon all health department personnel to take on a responsible role in ensuring the success of these initiatives.
Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Tripura National Health Mission Director Saju Wahid, Health Director Debashree Debbarma, Disease Prevention Department Director Anjan Das, and Medical Education Department Director H. P. Sharma were present during the event.
