Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday, 29 July declared that people of every religion are equal stakeholders in the state's development, calling communal unity the bedrock of lasting peace and inclusive growth. Speaking at a loan distribution programme for minority community members in Agartala, Saha also revealed that the state has submitted a ₹322 crore project proposal to the Centre for the socio-economic advancement of minority communities in Tripura.

The event, organised by the Tripura Minority Cooperative Development Limited at Pragya Bhavan, saw the Chief Minister distribute loan sanction cheques to beneficiaries from minority communities. The Tripura Minority Cooperative Development Corporation disbursed loans totalling ₹64.93 lakh among 28 beneficiaries to support higher education and self-employment ventures.

'People of every religion are partners in Tripura's development journey. Unity in diversity is the hallmark of our country and our state. Togetherness and development for all are among the fundamental pillars of progress,' Saha said while inaugurating the programme.

Saha stressed that transparent governance and sincere effort are the most effective tools for building public trust with minority communities. He underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on the holistic development of religious minorities nationwide — spanning education, healthcare, financial empowerment, women's welfare, and security — and said the state government is aligned with that direction.

'The state government is also committed to earning the trust and confidence of all religious minority communities by working in the same direction. We are striving to bring realistic and positive changes in the lives of people belonging to minority communities,' he said.

Focus on Women's Empowerment

A significant portion of Saha's address centred on women's education and financial security within minority communities. He argued that educating women strengthens entire families and societies. 'An educated daughter means a strong family. Therefore, the government remains committed to ensuring the safety, education and empowerment of women belonging to minority communities,' he said.

He also drew a pointed contrast with neighbouring countries, noting that minority women in India now benefit from multiple financial security and empowerment schemes — a situation he described as markedly different from the socio-economic conditions faced by women in several countries bordering India.

The ₹322 Crore Proposal and Its Significance

The centrepiece announcement was the state's ₹322 crore project proposal submitted to the Central government, covering a series of development initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of minority communities across Tripura. No timeline for Central approval was specified, but officials indicated the proposal is currently under review.

This comes amid a broader national push under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government to demonstrate inclusive governance credentials ahead of assembly cycles in several states.
