Agartala, June 12 (NationPress) A Tripura court has placed six suspects, including a doctor and his parents, in three-day police custody in relation to a murder linked to a love triangle, officials reported.

The six arrested individuals, who were taken into custody on Tuesday, were presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge of the West Tripura District on Thursday, as authorities requested custody for further questioning regarding the brutal slaying of Shariful Islam, aged 28.

Due to the high-profile nature of the case, extensive security measures have been implemented around the CJM court.

Outside the courthouse, emotions ran high as numerous individuals, including the victim's family, gathered, calling for severe penalties for those implicated in this shocking crime.

Many in the crowd shouted for capital punishment for the accused, demonstrating the public's outrage regarding this dreadful incident.

Law enforcement maintained a vigilant presence during the court proceedings to avert any potential disturbances, as this case continues to attract significant attention throughout the state.

West Tripura District Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar K., stated that the six individuals were apprehended on Tuesday night after Shariful Islam's body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase, which was found in an ice-cream freezer in Gandacherra, located in Tripura's Dhalai district.

Shariful's body was uncovered three days following his disappearance from Agartala on June 8, where he worked as an electrician on the Smart City Project.

The SP indicated that the primary suspect, Dibakar Saha, a doctor, purchased a suitcase two days prior to the murder, in which he concealed Shariful's body after binding his hands. He then transported the suitcase to Gandacherra, approximately 130 km from Agartala, and placed it inside his father's shop's ice-cream freezer on June 9.

Shariful's family filed a report at the New Capital Complex police station on June 9.

The district police chief noted that initial investigations revealed a love triangle as the motive for the murder.

Shariful had been involved with Dibakar's cousin sister, with Dibakar, an MBBS graduate from Bangladesh, also having feelings for her. Text messages were discovered on their mobile devices.

On June 8, Dibakar summoned Shariful to meet him at his friend Joydeep's residence in South Indiranagar, located on the outskirts of the city, under the pretense of presenting gifts.

When Shariful arrived at Joydeep's house, Dibakar allegedly strangled him in the presence of Joydeep, Animesh, and Nabanita, according to police reports.

Authorities have claimed to have obtained substantial digital proof, including mobile messages, which substantiate the love triangle motive and the involvement of various individuals.
