Tripura Police Arrest Six Individuals from Delhi Attempting to Sneak into Bangladesh

Agartala, Dec 20 (NationPress) Tripura Police have apprehended six individuals from Bangladesh, comprising two women and two children, after they arrived in the state from Delhi while attempting to return to their country in a covert manner, as stated by officials.

A police representative revealed that these six individuals were taken into custody from a private guest house located in Khowai district.

“The Bangladeshi nationals traveled to the bordering Khowai district from Delhi and temporarily stayed in the private lodge before attempting to return to their homeland with the assistance of Indian intermediaries. They hail from Feni district in Bangladesh,” the official informed the media.

During initial questioning, the detained individuals admitted that they had traveled to Delhi months prior in search of employment and had unlawfully obtained Aadhaar, PAN, and EPIC cards. The police confiscated these fraudulent documents.

The adult detainees were identified as Mohammad Kabir (37), Mohammad Mumin (23), Ayasha Khatun (70), and Tania Begum (35). They were accompanied by two children.

In the past five months, over 570 Bangladeshi nationals and more than 63 Rohingyas have been arrested by the Railway Police, Border Security Force (BSF), and Tripura Police at Agartala railway station and various locations across Tripura after they illegally crossed into India.

This year alone, in 2024, 55 Rohingyas among 700 illegal migrants from Bangladesh have been apprehended in Tripura, with various contraband valued at approximately Rs 50 crore seized by the BSF.

A BSF spokesperson stated that the border security force has intensified its operations along the 856 km India-Bangladesh border in Tripura to thwart infiltration, exfiltration, and cross-border crimes, including the smuggling of contraband.

Following the unrest in Bangladesh that began in June-July, the BSF has increased surveillance along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border with the neighboring nation to curtail trans-border crime and infiltration, the spokesperson added.

On multiple occasions, the BSF has successfully thwarted numerous infiltration attempts by hundreds of Bangladeshi nationals, including both Hindus and Muslims.

Five Indian states share a border with Bangladesh: West Bengal (2216 km), Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km), and Assam (263 km).
