Tragic Tunnel Collapse Claims Lives of Three Children in Rajasthan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 31 (NationPress) In a heart-wrenching event, three young boys tragically perished when a soil tunnel they had excavated for fun collapsed in the Sikar district of Rajasthan.
A fourth child managed to escape and raised the alarm, alerting local villagers about the incident, as reported by police officials on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Holash Meghwal (10), the son of Nanuram Meghwal; Gautam Saini (14), the son of Ratanlal Saini; and Dipesh Nayak (12), the son of Bhanwarlal Nayak, who were playing with their friend Krishna near a mound of earth approximately three to four feet high in a field.
While the boys had dug out a tunnel underneath the mound, Krishna stayed outside. Suddenly, the soil gave way, trapping Holash, Gautam, and Dipesh beneath the rubble. Although Krishna's legs were caught, he managed to extricate himself and attempted to rescue his companions.
When he couldn't pull them out, he yelled for help, which drew nearby villagers to the scene. The unfortunate incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Monday in Ganeri village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Nechhwa police station.
Rescue efforts by villagers and police commenced immediately, and while the soil was cleared and the children were retrieved, it was too late as they had already lost their lives.
This tragedy has exacerbated the sorrow of families already facing hardship. Holash's father had passed away a year prior, leaving the family in dire financial straits. Similarly, Dipesh's father had reportedly taken his own life around two years ago. Both Holash and Dipesh were enrolled in a government school.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his condolences, offering prayers for the strength of the grieving families.
This incident underscores the risks children face in rural settings, where unmonitored play near hazardous structures can lead to fatal outcomes.
