Bhubaneswar, April 4 (NationPress) Two notorious criminals were apprehended following a confrontation with the police on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The suspects, named Manish Yadav and Sonu Yadav from Katihar district in Bihar, were taken into custody late Thursday night.

Authorities stated that the suspects are reportedly part of a notorious gang involved in chain snatching, which operates in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha.

After examining CCTV footage, the police managed to identify the criminals and began their pursuit.

Following a tip-off regarding the duo's presence on the Cuttack-Puri Bypass road, police quickly arrived at the scene. They encountered the suspects at Sai Temple Square near Tankapani.

While attempting to flee, the duo's motorcycle collided with a concrete wall in the vicinity of the Bankuala area of the city. The suspects subsequently opened fire on the police, who responded with gunfire.

The wounded criminals were initially transported to the Capital Hospital and later transferred to SCB Medical College in Cuttack for medical assistance.

Sources indicated that the suspects would travel by train to their target locations, commit crimes in the respective cities, and then return to Bihar.

They are allegedly linked to six robbery incidents in Bhubaneshwar and the Puri area last month.

A case has been filed at the Badagada Police Station in this matter.

In a statement to the press, Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh remarked, 'This chain snatching gang has been under police surveillance for several days. They arrived in Bhubaneswar on March 20 and executed four snatching incidents in the city. Afterward, they proceeded to Puri and committed additional crimes before heading back to Bihar.

Singh noted that the suspects utilized a stolen vehicle for their criminal activities. He mentioned that police were tracking the duo upon their return to Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

The Police Commissioner informed the media that the suspects suffered gunshot wounds to their legs during the police's return fire.

Law enforcement has confiscated a 7.5 mm and a 9mm firearm from the criminals.

Commissioner Singh has issued a stern warning of strict consequences for criminals who challenge the police and pose a threat to the general public.
