The suspects have been named as Ranjeet Soni (36), hailing from Sangam Vihar, Delhi, and Tanzeer Alam (29) from Bihar.

As per police reports, on Monday night, Sub-Inspector Sumit Kumar, the Incharge of the Crime Branch in Palam Vihar, Gurugram, received a tip-off from the Police Control Room indicating that several individuals were in a Honda City car, allegedly prowling around Gurugram with intentions to commit robbery and possibly armed.

The police promptly initiated an investigation by erecting barricades with security gear on the roadway leading from 75 Foota Road to Dharampur Road in Gurugram.

As the Crime Branch team attempted to halt the vehicle, the driver crashed into the barricades and attempted to flee. In response, the driver of the Palam Vihar Crime Branch positioned the official vehicle in front of the suspect's Honda City, resulting in a collision. During the confrontation, the suspects fired at the police, who returned fire, injuring one suspect in the leg, leading to their eventual capture.

The police team proceeded with necessary actions and transported the injured suspects to a hospital for treatment. A case has been registered against the suspects under appropriate sections at the Rajendra Park Police Station in Gurugram.

During the encounter, a total of nine rounds were exchanged, with five fired by the accused and four by the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were attempting to flee after stealing jewelry from a residence within the jurisdiction of the Palam Vihar Police Station, Gurugram.

According to Varun Dahiya, ACP (crime), checks on the criminal history of the suspects uncovered that Ranjeet Soni has a total of 53 criminal cases against him in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana (including Gurugram, Faridabad, and Thanesar) related to crimes such as theft and robbery. Meanwhile, Tanzeer is reported to have 25 cases of theft, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act lodged against him in Delhi.
