Union Home Secretary Evaluates Security Measures in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Union Home Secretary, Govind Mohan, presided over a significant security review meeting in Srinagar on Monday. The main agenda was to assess security preparedness, ongoing anti-terrorist operations, and to tackle potential threats that could compromise peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting took place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), located by the scenic Dal Lake. Key attendees included the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Tapan Deka, along with senior officials from the J&K police and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

During the review, security arrangements for winter tourism events in popular destinations such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and other tourist hotspots were also on the agenda.

As winter sports gain popularity among both domestic and international tourists, the security measures for these visitors, along with local residents involved in facilitating such adventure activities, were thoroughly evaluated.

In addition to reviewing security in the hinterland, the discussions also encompassed security along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC).

The meeting addressed the challenges that have arisen since an elected government took office in J&K, noting that political activities by the government and its representatives will require heightened security measures.

Concerns regarding potential infiltration from across the LoC and the international border during the winter months were also deliberated, with suggestions put forward to ensure zero infiltration.

Furthermore, the meeting tackled challenges following recent snowfall in the Valley, as heavy snow can complicate patrolling and security operations in remote, hard-to-reach areas.

Leading intelligence, police, and CAPF officials presented PowerPoint briefings during the review session to highlight their assessments of the security landscape. The meeting was also attended by J&K Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and the General Officer Commanding of the army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps.
