Srinagar, April 8 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a thorough assessment of various developmental projects in Jammu and Kashmir during a high-profile meeting held here on Tuesday.
The meeting saw participation from Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, along with additional chief secretaries and administrative secretaries from multiple departments.
Prior to the meeting, Amit Shah engaged in a private discussion with the Chief Minister.
The Union Home Minister is also set to evaluate the overall security situation in the union territory in a subsequent meeting that will include the Lt. Governor, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Deka, and Directors General of the J&K Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) such as BSF and CRPF, along with senior intelligence officials.
Additionally, the Home Minister is expected to interact with several delegations before his afternoon departure to Delhi.
On X, he announced that three more organizations have exited the separatist Hurriyat Conference and pledged their loyalty to the Constitution of India.
He emphasized that this reflects the increasing support for the Prime Minister's vision of a Naya Kashmir, where violence and animosity will have no place.
After arriving on Monday, Amit Shah visited the Humhama region near the Srinagar International Airport to pay respects to the family of martyred J&K Police Dy SP, Humayun Bhat.
The Home Minister expressed his condolences to the family, spending approximately 20 minutes with Ghulam Hassan Bhat, the retired IGP and father of Humayun. He also consoled Fatima, the wife of the fallen officer, and blessed their 20-month-old child.
L-G Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah accompanied the Home Minister during his visit to the martyr's family.
Humayun lost his life on September 13, 2003, while combating a group of terrorists in the forests of Kokernag Tehsil in the Anantnag district.
Renowned for his professionalism and valor, the officer was awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously.
While in Jammu, Amit Shah met the families of four policemen who were martyred in the fight against terrorism in the Kathua district.
He granted compassionate appointment orders to the next of kin of the martyrs.
During his discussions in Jammu, HM Shah noted that while terrorism has decreased, it is not yet completely eradicated in J&K, and assured that full normalcy would soon be restored.
He held a closed-door meeting with members of the BJP and RSS at the residence of Sunil Sharma, the Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly.
During his visit to the BSF border outpost in Kathua on Monday, the Home Minister commended the BSF for being an elite border sentinel force of the nation.
He stated that advanced technology is being provided to the BSF to ensure comprehensive tech-driven surveillance of the border. He informed the deployed BSF personnel that the nation holds them in high regard for their dedication and commitment to safeguarding the country's frontiers.
“You perform your duties year-round, 24/7, regardless of torrential rain, extreme cold, or sweltering heat. BSF has a glorious legacy, and you truly deserve the respect and prestige that the force has earned among the citizens of our country,” he told the BSF officers and jawans.
