New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) The relatives of the Unnao rape survivor, accompanied by women's rights advocates, demonstrated outside the Delhi High Court on Friday, opposing the bail granted to Kuldeep Sengar, who was found guilty in the Unnao rape case. The protesters voiced their outrage over the court's ruling, holding placards and chanting slogans like “Peedit rahe asurakshit aur balatkari kare aish? Humein nahi manzoor,” emphasizing their support for the survivor and demanding decisive action against the convicted former MLA.
Assembled near the court, the demonstrators expressed that the decision had “shaken public faith” and conveyed a troubling message concerning crimes against women.
In an interview with IANS, the survivor's mother shared her continued belief in the justice system and the Supreme Court.
“If the Public Prosecutor stands with me and supports my lawyer, and if the CBI Public Prosecutor also takes a firm stand, there is hope. Honestly, I do not have much faith in the CBI, but I do believe in the Public Prosecutor. I trust the Supreme Court and will keep appealing to its authority,”
she stated.
She further insisted that the bail should be revoked and called for the harshest punishment for the perpetrator.
“Any MLA, regardless of their religion or caste, who commits such a heinous act against a girl or a minor deserves capital punishment. That is all we seek. I am confident we will attain justice,”
she concluded.
Social activist Yogita Bhayana also condemned the systemic failures, stating that the survivor had been let down at numerous levels.
“Initially, she was raped and subsequently gang-raped by a powerful individual. This was no ordinary criminal, but someone with significant influence. When such power is involved, the system is often compromised. It is deeply unfortunate that an influential figure like Mr. Sengar was able to secure relief,”
she remarked.
Bhayana affirmed that activists will persist in their quest for justice.
“We are striving for relief, and we deserve it. If we do not receive justice here, we shall escalate our appeal to the Supreme Court,”
she added.
Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court suspended Sengar's prison sentence.
A bench comprising Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar approved his bail, requiring him to provide a personal bond of ₹15 lakh along with three sureties of the same amount.
