Lucknow, Nov 30 (NationPress) The ‘Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana’ is an unprecedented initiative being launched by the Uttar Pradesh government starting from December 1. This scheme is set to offer significant relief to millions of electricity consumers by providing a 100% interest waiver along with rebates on their outstanding power bills.
Benefiting both everyday citizens and small electricity users, as well as commercial operators, this scheme will be available from December 1, 2025, until February 28, 2026.
Under this initiative, consumers can enjoy a 100% waiver on interest and surcharges, as well as a 25% rebate on the principal amount. Special benefits are aimed at small domestic users with connections up to two kilowatts and commercial clients with connections up to one kilowatt.
According to UPPCL Chairman Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal, the government has prioritized the welfare of the public by launching this extensive relief scheme to address outstanding electricity bills. Easy installment plans and automatic adjustments based on average consumption are expected to provide genuine financial relief.
This initiative will be particularly beneficial for consumers previously facing legal issues related to unauthorized electricity usage, helping to resolve ongoing litigations and easing the burden of affected families.
To benefit from this scheme, consumers must register on the official portal, either online or by visiting their local electricity division office. The government has initiated a special campaign to disseminate information, including notices, pamphlets, and information letters, as well as organizing camps in both rural and urban areas.
This plan is especially advantageous for impoverished families, small shop owners, farmers, and eligible electricity consumers in rural settings. The interest waivers and principal rebates will provide immediate assistance, while the option for easy installments will help alleviate monthly financial burdens.
“The government’s commitment is clear: to guarantee that every consumer can access a fair, accessible, and straightforward energy system, ensuring that all citizens can equally benefit from energy security and economic relief,” stated a government release.
