Jaunpur, June 10 (NationPress) The Central government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, initiated earlier this year, is already providing remarkable financial relief to households nationwide. In Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur, a resident has reported saving nearly Rs 10,000 on electricity bills within just two months, thanks to the installation of solar panels through this initiative.
Ashutosh Singh, a local beneficiary, shared his experience with IANS, highlighting how this initiative has significantly altered his monthly expenses.
"Prior to installing the solar panels, my electricity bills ranged from Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 each month. However, since the installation two months ago, I have not received a single electricity bill. Instead, I’m saving money and even generating income through the system," he remarked.
Ashutosh learned about the PM Surya Ghar Yojana via social media awareness campaigns and government outreach efforts. Intrigued, he reached out to a local panel installer for more information. Shortly after, he applied for the program and set up two separate 3-kilowatt solar units—one for each of his two homes.
"The panels not only power my household appliances but also generate surplus electricity that is fed back into the grid," he explained.
"For example, if my system produces 5 kilowatts during the day and I only consume 1.5 kilowatts, the extra 3.5 kilowatts are sold to the grid, contributing to my savings."
Singh emphasized how practical and advantageous this scheme is for all segments of society.
"This is a revolutionary change, especially for farmers, shopkeepers, and everyday households. People can operate water pumps, fans, and lights—all powered by solar energy—thus reducing their reliance on traditional electricity sources."
The affordability of the installation was also noteworthy. Singh elaborated on the costs and subsidies involved. "One 3-kilowatt system cost me Rs 1.8 lakh. However, within 20 days of installation, I received Rs 78,000 as a subsidy from the Central government, followed by another Rs 30,000 from the state government just 10 days later. This brought my actual cost down to merely Rs 72,000 per unit. I installed two units, and the savings began right away."
"Thanks to PM Modi’s visionary approach, I’ve already saved Rs 10,000 in just two months. The breeze from the fan and the light in my room feel better knowing they stem from clean, cost-free energy. I encourage everyone to seize this opportunity. Once they install the system, they'll truly appreciate how transformative and financially beneficial it can be," he urged.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was launched by PM Modi on February 15, 2024, to encourage the adoption of renewable energy at the household level. The initiative provides subsidies and incentives to motivate citizens to install rooftop solar panels, helping to lower electricity expenses while contributing to India’s sustainable energy objectives.
