Chennai, Aug 11 (NationPress) VCK's founding leader and MP, Thol. Thirumavalavan has urged party leaders and members to adhere strictly to the core agenda during the current protests advocating for laws against honour killings.
Thirumavalavan noted that protests occurred on August 9 in Chennai and three additional districts, and demonstrations are set to continue today (Monday) in other district headquarters as scheduled.
He emphasized that speakers at these events should clarify and elaborate on the resolution adopted at the “Save Secularism” rally in Tiruchi, avoiding any diversion into unrelated political topics under the guise of discussing current affairs.
The VCK leader also warned party members against engaging with accusations that he had made disparaging remarks about former Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) and J. Jayalalithaa.
“There are claims that I insulted MGR and Jayalalithaa. In response to this, we should refrain from making statements that might appear as a rebuttal to Edappadi K. Palaniswami or other senior AIADMK figures. I am willing to clarify my position personally, so no member should comment on this matter. We have no intention of disrespecting any leader,” he stated.
Reflecting on his comments at a memorial for Karunanidhi, Thirumavalavan pointed out the anti-Karunanidhi sentiment within Tamil Nadu politics, highlighting that while leaders like Periyar expressed their opinions, MGR and Jayalalithaa were not criticized similarly.
“When I mentioned that opposing the Dravidian movement is fundamentally opposing Karunanidhi, I clarified that my political stance opposes Karunanidhi. However, they are attempting to frame it as if I intentionally disrespected MGR and Jayalalithaa,” he added.
He reiterated that during the protests, members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu should refrain from commenting on this controversy. Thirumavalavan reaffirmed the party’s demand for the Tamil Nadu government to enact legislation against honour killings.
He also urged the Union government to implement similar laws at the national level.
“Our attention must remain focused on the call for a legal structure against honour killings. This is the primary issue, and we must discuss only that,” he concluded.
