Kolkata, April 18 (NationPress) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) President Alok Kumar on Friday referred to the recent communal unrest in Murshidabad, West Bengal, as 'regrettable' and advocated for the implementation of President's Rule in the state.

In an interview with IANS, Alok Kumar stated, "This is not an isolated event. Such incidents have occurred multiple times previously. The latest violence raises alarming questions. Why are Hindus being compelled to exist as refugees in their homeland? Is there a broader scheme to render specific areas devoid of Hindus?"

He further scrutinized the state’s intelligence agencies, questioning, "If this violence was orchestrated, why did the intelligence units fail to intervene? If they were aware, why wasn’t it stopped? Mamata Banerjee has herself alleged connections to Bangladesh -- so why not assign the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA)?"

Kumar criticized the Chief Minister's resistance to central laws, commenting, "A Chief Minister who overtly declines to enforce laws enacted by the Centre does not respect the Constitution. This signifies a collapse of constitutional governance. Hence, we have urged the central authority to contemplate enforcing President's Rule in West Bengal."

He also declared plans for nationwide protests.

"Tomorrow, VHP members will conduct demonstrations at district headquarters throughout India and present memorandums to district administrations, demanding President's Rule in the state," he informed IANS.

In response to Mamata Banerjee’s accusations against the Border Security Force (BSF), Kumar labeled her statements as “irresponsible.”

“To stir public emotions against security personnel is a grave offense. She made these claims while addressing Muslim leaders -- does she possess any evidence? Who allegedly bribed the BSF? If she has proof, she should refer the investigation to the NIA. Otherwise, such remarks merely undermine national institutions,” he asserted.

Kumar also acknowledged the visits of West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose and the National Commission for Women (NCW) to relief camps in Malda.

“I express gratitude to the Governor and NCW for their concern. However, if they can visit, why hasn’t the Chief Minister made an appearance herself?” he questioned.

The violence in Murshidabad ignited during protests against the Waqf Act. In response, authorities have heightened security, deploying paramilitary forces and have detained 274 individuals linked to the unrest.
