Kerala Ports Minister V.N. Vasavan remarked on Tuesday, “Achieving this incredible milestone merely ten months after operations commenced is genuinely remarkable,” as Vizhinjam International Seaport marks a significant moment in India’s maritime journey.
Managed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), Vizhinjam welcomed its 500th ship on Tuesday, which coincided with another historic event—the arrival of MSC Verona, the deepest draft container vessel ever handled at an Indian port, measuring 17.1 metres.
Vasavan commented that “with MSC Verona docking at 17.1 metres, Vizhinjam achieved two records in a single day, progressing steadily with strong momentum.”
Since its commercial operations began in December 2024, Vizhinjam has already managed 1.1 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), exceeding its anticipated annual capacity.
Among the 500 vessels serviced to date, 28 were Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs), setting a record for the highest number received at any single Indian port.
