New Delhi, Aug 8 (NationPress) The Delhi Water Minister, Parvesh Sahib Singh, criticized the prior AAP administration for its failure to address the escalating loss of drinkable water within the Delhi Jal Board’s system, stating that the wastage surged from 30 percent to 40 percent throughout its 11-year governance.
In response to a query regarding water scarcity in the Delhi Assembly, Parvesh Sahib Singh remarked, “Globally, governments aim to minimize leakages and curb water losses in their pipeline systems. However, under the AAP government, the loss in Delhi rose from 30 percent to 40 percent over the span of 11 years.”
He assured MLAs of his commitment to resolving water supply challenges across all 70 Assembly constituencies, stating, “The former government continually blamed Haryana for diminishing supply and inducing a water crisis in Delhi, yet it neglected to improve its own network to lessen leakage.”
He highlighted that after the BJP government took office on February 20, the Asian Development Bank contacted them within just a week to resume stalled projects.
Parvesh Sahib Singh also criticized ex-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for alleging that the Haryana government had contaminated the water supply.
“We refrain from spreading falsehoods and dedicate ourselves to serving all Delhi residents, irrespective of their political affiliations. We do not claim that poisoned water from Haryana would enter the homes of only AAP supporters,” he emphasized.
The Minister noted that within the last five months, the government has installed 15 km of new water supply lines in previously underserved areas.
Additionally, 58 km of damaged water supply lines were replaced during this timeframe, addressing the concerns raised by AAP MLA from Rohtas Nagar, Jitender Mahajan.
Parvesh Sahib Singh mentioned that the DJB has formed an enforcement team to tackle illegal borewells and those acquiring water from tankers.
“We are also contemplating a policy to regulate borewells to monitor underground water extraction,” he added.
