Raipur, Oct 29 (NationPress) In a remarkable turn of events in Chhattisgarh, 21 Maoists are anticipated to officially surrender on Wednesday to senior police officials in Kanker district, marking a significant achievement in the state’s intensified anti-Naxal initiative.

The group, having emerged from the dense Barrebada forest two days prior, has now arrived at the district headquarters, where they will renounce violence and reintegrate into mainstream society, according to police sources.

Among the 21 individuals, 18 are surrendering with their firearms, highlighting the seriousness of this change and the increasing impact of sustained police efforts in the area.

Initial images of the surrendering cadre are expected to be shared with the media soon, capturing a moment that signifies both relief and determination. This surge in surrenders is part of a larger trend that has gained traction in recent weeks.

The defection of several high-ranking Naxalites, including Rupesh, a Central Committee member, has created a ripple effect throughout the insurgent ranks. Since Rupesh's surrender, multiple factions have followed suit, citing diminishing support, operational fatigue, and the expanding reach of security forces.

The Kanker group's choice to leave the forest and approach authorities was made two days ago, indicating a planned and coordinated action. Their anticipated arrival at the district headquarters on Wednesday is not merely a logistical end but a symbolic act of reintegration. Senior police officials will oversee the formalities, ensuring the process is both safe and dignified, sources noted.

Beyond Kanker, similar feelings are emerging in other regions of the state. Maoists from Bastar and Gariaband have also indicated their desire to surrender, further suggesting a widespread decline in militant morale.

Officials are optimistic that the combination of strategic operations, community outreach, and rehabilitation assurances is steadily weakening the ideological hold of the movement.

Just last Sunday, October 26, a similar group of 21 cadres surrendered in Kanker, bringing along 18 weapons, expressing disillusionment with Maoist exploitation and false ideology.

On October 17, 210 Naxalites, including the Central Committee Member Rupesh alias Satish (with a bounty of Rs 45 lakh), surrendered in Jagdalpur, resulting in rewards totaling Rs 9.18 crore.

Earlier, on October 2, another 103 defections occurred in Bijapur (with a bounty of Rs 1.06 crore). In Gariaband, another group recently announced their surrender, indicating a continuous ripple effect.
