West Bengal: Senior Resident Physician Fleeing After Rape and Attempted Murder Allegations

Kolkata, Dec 12 (NationPress) A senior resident physician affiliated with Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal has gone into hiding after facing accusations of rape and attempted murder. This follows a formal complaint filed against him earlier this week.
A senior police official from Murshidabad district confirmed on Tuesday that a formal complaint has been registered against the accused doctor at Baharampur Police Station. Consequently, an investigation into the matter has commenced.
“We are conducting search operations to apprehend the suspect. Charges have been filed against him under various sections, including rape. We have also recorded the statement of the accused,” the official stated.
According to the victim's complaint, she was acquainted with the accused and was invited to meet him in Baharampur on October 8 regarding a marriage proposal.
Upon her arrival, as per the complaint, she was taken to a hotel room in Baharampur for dinner, where the accused allegedly mixed sedatives in her soft drinks. After consuming the tainted drink and losing consciousness, the victim reported that she was assaulted by the accused.
On December 2, the accused reportedly summoned her to Baharampur to discuss the situation. During this encounter, he allegedly threatened her to keep quiet about the events of October 8 and attempted to strangle her when she resisted.
She managed to escape and eventually decided to file a formal complaint with the local police. Sources indicate that the complainant, a resident of Kolkata, was instructed to visit Baharampur for medical examinations but has yet to appear.
Recently, West Bengal has been in the news due to numerous incidents of rape and murder, with many victims being minors. One of the most notorious cases involved the horrific rape and murder of a female junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata this past August.
