Hyderabad, March 24 (NationPress) A young woman sustained injuries after she leapt from a moving Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) train in a desperate attempt to evade sexual assault in Hyderabad.

The incident took place in Secunderabad when a man entered the ladies' compartment of the Telapur-Medchal MMTS train and tried to force himself on her, according to Railway Police on Monday. In fear for her safety, the terrified woman jumped from the moving train.

The 23-year-old was discovered lying injured near a railway bridge in Kompally. After bystanders notified the 108 ambulance service, she was transported to Gandhi Hospital.

The victim is from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh and works at a private firm on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

She informed the police that she had traveled to Secunderabad on Sunday to have her mobile phone repaired. After completing the repair, she arrived at Secunderabad Railway Station. Purchasing a general ticket, she boarded the Telapur-Medchal MMTS train and occupied the women’s section.

Two other women who were with her exited at Alwal Railway Station.

Left alone in the compartment around 8:30 p.m., a young man entered, approached her, and solicited sexual favors. When she declined, he attempted to assault her. To escape, she jumped from the moving train, as reported by the police.

The victim suffered significant injuries to her head, chin, right hand, and waist.

According to her description, the assailant was approximately 25 years old, thin, with a dark complexion, and wearing a checked shirt. She stated that she could recognize him if she saw him again.

Hailing from Anantapur, the victim resides in a hostel and is employed at a private company.

Inspector Sai Eshwar Goud of the Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed that a case has been filed and investigations into the assault are ongoing.

In the wake of this incident, Railway Police have increased security measures on the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS), a suburban rail service operated by the South Central Railway connecting Hyderabad to its suburbs.
