Hyderabad, April 18 (NationPress) A young woman fabricated a story of sexual assault after accidentally falling from a moving MMTS train in Hyderabad while filming an Instagram reel, according to railway police.
Three weeks following the incident, police investigations revealed that the 23-year-old had concocted a false narrative to mislead the inquiry.
By reviewing footage from 300 CCTV cameras and interrogating roughly 120 suspects, the railway police determined that no sexual assault had occurred.
As stated by Superintendent of Police for Railways, Chandana Deepti, the young woman admitted that she fell from the train while attempting to capture a reel on her mobile device.
She was discovered injured close to a railway bridge in Kompally on the night of March 23. Bystanders alerted the police, who subsequently transported her to a hospital.
The woman alleged that she leaped from the moving train to escape a man who purportedly tried to sexually assault her.
Originating from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, she is employed at a private firm in Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad. She had boarded the Telapur-Medchal MMTS train in the ladies’ coach at Secunderabad Railway Station to return to Medchal after having her mobile phone repaired in Secunderabad.
She claimed that when she was alone in the coach, a young man approached her and solicited sexual favors. When she rejected his advances, he allegedly attempted to assault her. In her attempt to escape, she jumped from the moving train.
The railway police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Special teams were established to analyze the CCTV footage at all stations along the 28-km route from Secunderabad to Medchal to identify the suspect.
The woman was initially admitted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, later being transferred to a private facility.
The incident sparked widespread outrage. Opposition parties and women’s organizations condemned the situation, with their leaders visiting the hospital to support the ‘victim’.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines and Secunderabad MP Kishan Reddy also visited the private hospital to meet the woman. Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay also engaged with her family, assuring them of necessary support.
Opposition leaders expressed concern over the inadequate security for women traveling alone, especially during nighttime.
