Hyderabad, April 2 (NationPress) Authorities have apprehended a driver in connection with the assault of a German woman on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
As per reports from the police, the suspect, Abdul Aslam, executed the crime at Mamidipally under the jurisdiction of Pahadishareef Police Station after providing a lift to the victim and her German companion.
The police took action following a complaint lodged by the victim’s Indian friend, Mangalagiri Sharath Chandra Chowdhury, who resides in Meerpet of Rangareddy district.
Sharath Chandra, who studied at the University of Messina in Italy last year, had formed a friendship with two German nationals – the victim and her friend Maximilian Qiyuanliu. They arrived in Hyderabad on March 4 for sightseeing and exploration. While staying at Sharath Chandra’s place in Meerpet, they were visiting various attractions in the city.
According to a statement from the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, the victim and her friend departed the residence on the evening of March 31 to visit a nearby vegetable market. During their journey, they were approached by a Swift Desire vehicle, which was occupied by six individuals, including the accused driver. The remaining passengers were young boys aged between 9 and 16 years. They greeted the visitors and inquired about their destination. Upon learning they were heading to the market, the accused offered them a ride. Trusting him, the German travelers entered the car.
The police reported that the group drove towards Chandrayangutta, and after refueling, they visited several locations before heading towards Mamidipally. Upon arrival, the accused instructed the others, including the victim's friend, to exit the vehicle and take photographs. He then drove approximately 100 meters away with the victim to a remote location, where he threatened her life and forcibly assaulted her inside the car.
After the assault, the accused returned the victim to where he had dropped off the others. As the car slowed down, the victim managed to escape by jumping out of the moving vehicle and reuniting with her friend.
The police have filed a case under section 64 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation. Aslam, aged 25 and a resident of Yakutpura, was arrested at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Previously employed as a driver in Dubai, Aslam had rented a vehicle through a long drive app and picked up his neighborhood friends. During their outing, he encountered the victim and her companion.
The police have sent the victim for a medical examination and seized the vehicle. The accused was presented in court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
