Empowering Women: How PMKVY is Transforming Lives in Chamoli
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chamoli, March 5 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) has been instrumental in providing short-term skill training to numerous unemployed youth while enhancing the vocational capabilities of others, resulting in significant transformations in the lives of the residents of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand.
Particularly, women have reaped the benefits of this initiative by availing themselves of the government’s financial support to launch their own enterprises.
Currently, many beneficiaries have established self-sustaining businesses, with several gaining notable success and recognition in their communities.
Despite the challenging terrain of Chamoli, it has become a beacon of self-sustaining businesses, many of which are operated by women.
Numerous women, after receiving training through this initiative, have initiated their own ventures and are now generating substantial income.
This skill development program has positively impacted their lives.
To date, over 200 women in the district have benefited from the training provided by the scheme.
Training encompasses areas such as jute bag manufacturing, sewing, embroidery, handicrafts, and other practical skills.
Following their training, participants often establish businesses either individually or through self-help groups (SHGs).
Products like jute bags are in high demand, which has not only improved their financial stability but has also enhanced their confidence within their families and communities.
The training centers equip them with essential knowledge regarding product quality, packaging, and marketing, thus enabling them to access broader markets.
One of the beneficiaries, Seema Negi, shared her experience with IANS, stating that she learned sewing at no cost during the training.
She is now able to sew jute bags with a sewing machine and has also acquired skills to create women's suits and ethnic garments.
Seema expressed her gratitude for the initiative, commending the Central government for empowering many women, including herself, towards self-reliance.
It is noteworthy that the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was launched in 2015 to foster and promote skill development across the nation, offering free short-duration skill training and incentivizing youth through monetary rewards for skill certification.
