Indore, July 24 (NationPress) - In a startling incident that unfolded in the Khajrana police station area of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday morning, a mob, predominantly consisting of women, allegedly attacked Sub-Inspector (SI) Suresh Bunkar.
A video, which has yet to be verified by IANS, circulated widely across various media outlets. The footage reportedly depicts a man, without a shirt, being assaulted by a group that includes women.
The officer was allegedly pulled from a residence in Bunkar Khedi, beaten with sticks, and nearly stripped and tied to an electric pole until police arrived.
As per local accounts, the sub-inspector was visiting the home of a woman involved in a marital dispute.
Neighbors and relatives claim the officer, who was off-duty and intoxicated, was acting inappropriately. His repeated visits over the last two months had already raised suspicions, but the incident on Thursday morning sparked public outrage.
Footage circulating on social media also displays a crowd encircling the officer, with some attempting to restrain him and remove his uniform.
The situation escalated quickly, prompting the Khajrana police to request additional support from the Palasia control room. Despite initial pushback from the crowd, the officer was ultimately rescued and taken to the police station.
Authorities have detained several individuals, including women involved in the assault, and are investigating both the mob’s violence and the officer’s behavior.
No official statement has been released by police, nor has there been any disciplinary action taken against the officer at this point.
This incident is not the first controversy involving SI Suresh. Earlier in 2023, he was part of a drunken altercation with youths near the Lasudiya police station, which also ended in violence, leading to injuries for the officer and public humiliation for those accused.
The recent event has reignited discussions surrounding police accountability and public trust. Currently, SI Suresh is under police protection, but departmental inquiry proceedings are anticipated.
